Generations Foundation Gala
Honors Arlene Mitchell

Arlene Mitchell admires the menorah given to her as a “thank you” for her
many years of service while Rabbi Steven Silberman explains its significance.
Sponsored by Senior Citizens Services, the Generations Foundation Endowment Gala was held at the home of Geri and Gordon Moulton in Daphne, Alabama the evening of April 24. This invitation only event honored Arlene F. Mitchell and benefited the Generations Foundation and a new endowment fund established to support the strategic goals of Senior Citizens Services through philanthropy. Devoted to healthy aging, it will bridge the needs of a diverse generation with the resources of the broader community.
Known for her contagious laughter and endless enthusiasm, Mrs. Mitchell’s ability to inspire others is infectious. Her dedication to philanthropy and service is beyond compare. Mrs. Mitchell’s inspiring volunteer leadership is reflected in the strength of Senior Citizens Services during the past 25 years. Her legacy will be sustained for many years to come through the Generations Foundation.
With more than 100 in attendance, this gala event raised over $90,000 through contributions and pledges. One of the highlights of the evening was a “challenge gift” made by Richard Dorman, past board president, and Dr. Maggi O’Brien to match future gifts up to $25,000. “What a pleasure the have the opportunity to honor Arlene Mitchell for all she’s done to promote senior services for our community. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to this new endowment fund. Richard Dorman’s generous gift will do much to enhance senior services for Mobile. We greatly appreciate both Arlene’s and Richard’s continual support,” said Dr. Harvey White, board president.

Mrs. Mitchell has served as a volunteer and board member for more than 20 years and in 2005, agreed to assume the challenging role as chair of the Bridging Generations Capital Campaign. With the help of Richard Dorman, the campaign raised more than $3 million to fund an expansion for the Center.
Continuing in the success of the Bridging Generations Capital Campaign, the Generations Foundation will benefit future generations of older adults by providing for the growth of Senior Citizens Services. This growth will include public education, new technology, support services, equipment, renovation and construction, as well as training and research projects.
A variety of sources, including public and private donations, memorials and honorariums, planned giving opportunities, an annual endowment fund appeal, and special event fundraising will support the foundation. The Generations Foundation office is located inside the Via Center, on the Arlene F. Mitchell Campus at 1717 Dauphin St. in Mobile, Alabama.

Cathy Wagner, Richard Dorman, Danner Frazer, Nancy Sledge and Pat Frazer were in attendance to honor Mrs. Mitchell and support the new Generations Foundation.
